Building Wooden Rollers for the Claremore Mountain Bike Trails. Not Quite a How To But Pretty Close
I wish this was more of a "How to Build Wooden Rollers" and while this does have all the steps I took, this is more of a story about the build. I was privileged enough to get to build a set of wooden rollers for the Claremore Lake Mountain Bike Trails. And I did it with help from Matt, Tate, and Riley from the Boy Scouts Troop 80.

Sunset Mountain Bike Ride of White Ranch Park, Colorado
Просмотров 7553 года назад
This is a little mountain bike tour of White Ranch right out side of Golden, Colorado. Just as I arrived to the trailhead an afternoon thundershower came in. It lasted a little longer than usual so I took that time to take a little nap in the truck. When the storm started to roll out a park ranger was there talking to some other bikers that had been caught out in the deluge. They asked if the t...

How to Build a Sturdy Adjustable MTB Kicker Ramp that Folds Flat for Storage.
Просмотров 84 тыс.3 года назад
So, I've been working on this video for a while. I wanted an MTB Kicker Ramp for that would be easy to break down for storage and had some adjustability to it. After many hours researching and throwing away designs I came up with this ramp. Please note: this is more or less just a prototype, there are many things that I could fine-tune, make more efficient, or change altogether. Some things don...

    How wide are the planking boards? 36" or 32"? If 32" can get more boards per 8 and 16' 2x6's. Thanks so much for video. I am using this template for our first roller. The only diff is I am thinking of adding 3' flat in-between the two rollers at bottom. My local trail is flat and the property owner has allowed us to add features side of trail. Average speed in the area where we are installing is about 12mph, which I think the roller 2' height will be the right size.

    Thanks for the time you took to make these plans. I just finished my own version! I absolutely love it!! A couple of changes I've made; I used 3/4" Plywood instead of 1/2" and installed a handle on one side and a pair of 3" rigid casters on the other side so it rolls. It's awesome!

    From the recent Joy of Bike manual how to video (2024), the key is finding your balance point, which will be somewhere before the point where you loop out. Keeping hips low is also key. Okay, I’ll get back to it. Wish I had some grace I could practice on. Maybe a padded paved area. Oh and make sure you have slightly faster than walking speed when practicing. Like other in motion tricks, balance can be better achieved when moving and at a higher speed, but not too fast if you’re still learning (faster than walking, but not quite running?).

    Thanks for this vid…most every vid on manual and bunny hops (i ride BMX) recommends ‘mastering’ looping out in order to progress in bunny hops and manuals. For those still learning, like me, great advice from the Slow Grind How to Bunny Hop BMX vid, when practicing looping out, make sure your knees stay bent otherwise, as you can see in one case in this vid, you can’t spring off the pedals and land safely. So keep those legs bent during these drills. Could help some folks. Good luck and ride safe!

    why didn't you stick with the plan for the first boards on the kicker. That's what I was interested in since this is really the tricky part if you wan't a smoother transition from ground onto the ramp. Especially when the groms with their little wheels hit the ramp. The design looks pretty clever, so why did you choose not to go with that?

    • @LunchRide
      @LunchRide 3 месяца назад

      Because it was completely unnecessary for me. As I say in the video, the 27.5 wheels that I have roll right over it. I don't ride with kids so I don't need to take that into account. If you do ride with kids, then by all means, make that adjustment for yourself.

    Finally made the Z desk. Had to go back to my high school maths to redo the design to fit my vertically challenged self, but I got there eventually. I did away with the water bottles holes since I figure my chilled water bottles are just going to leave water condensation over everything and it won't be pretty. So I plan to buy a cheap water bottle holder and just screw it to the left side. I didn't do the shelf either, but might go back and add it later. Not sure the storage will be much use for me. Have attached a towel hook to the right side, and used a couple of coats of polyurethane to protect it from my sweaty self. Plus I added a fourth cross brace on the bottom at the back. Doesn't get in the way of the front tyre of the bike at all. Definitely wish I had a bigger shed/garage, and could justify the additional toys - a mitre saw and a decent size workbench would have made this much easier. But I still think made a decent job with a circular saw, and using a cheap plastic folding table. It's not perfect - a little asymmetrical TBH - but it does the job a thousand time better than the previous stack of plastic storage crates.

    Great plans for a sturdy and portable ramp! This project is pretty easily accomplished with minimal tools, the only power tools really needed are a circular saw and drill. A miter saw would certainly make things easier but is not needed. The build cost me about $120 and took 6 hours. Thank you!

    What a great project. I really want to recognize that you went from concept to finish product and you filmed it in a way that is easy to follow. That is a lot of effort, time and a conglomeration of skills with execution. I’m a self employed renovation/finish carpenter, I’ve been putting a tool belt on every day for 30 years. I look forward to building this with my son. My only suggestion is to use glue everywhere possible. Wood glue is good, construction adhesive would be best, it will bond into places that are gapped. The racking strength and durability would be much greater.
